Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
